Southwest Is Celebrating Its 50th Year in Service With $50 One-way Flights

Southwest Airlines is hitting a major milestone this year, marking its 50th year in operation. To honor this anniversary, the airline is offering travelers the chance to snag one-way flights for as low as $50 this winter.

From now through Feb. 8, 2021, would-be travelers can snag the discounted tickets, which must be purchased 21 days in advance of travel. 

The low fares are valid for travel within the continental U.S. between Feb. 9 through May 26, 2021. Tickets are also available between the continental U.S. and Hawaii and travel to and from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and international travel. Those tickets are valid from Feb. 9 through May 20, 2021. Some blackout dates apply.

Travel Pulse found that booking weekday flights between Southwest‘s bases is the best way to find the biggest deals. It found $100 roundtrip flights between Atlanta and Nashville, Los Angeles and Las Vegas, Baltimore and Boston, and Orlando and Fort Lauderdale using the airline’s Low Fare Calendar. 

From Los Angeles, flyers can find those $50 tickets to Las Vegas, Oakland, Phoenix, Reno, Sacramento, and Tucson on nonstop flights. 

From New York, travelers won’t find any $50 fights. However, they can grab $67 to Baltimore and a number of one-way flights for $76 across the country. 

Those looking to head a bit further out can find nonstop international flights from Houston to Cancun from $175 and Orlando to Montego Bay, Jamaica from $153.

Seats and days are limited, so those looking to travel on the cheap may want to book their ticket as soon as possible. While the tickets are non-refundable, it is important to note travelers may be able to use the cost of the ticket toward future travel on Southwest Airlines, as long as reservations are canceled at least ten minutes prior to the scheduled departure, just in case their plans change.
